The first and second graders enjoyed a glorious day at Lake Katherine Nature Center in Palos Heights recently. They participated in an adventure called “Discover the Gardens.” They explored the woods, prairies, and herb garden. Students conducted a water experiment with thermometers and the lake temperature. They played with a live frog, measured prairie grasses and smelled herbs. The students also examined lichens, mosses, conifers and flowers. Everyone enjoyed a day of exploration and fun. They even went on a hayride and saw a real waterfall.

On Wednesday, October 26, Student Council sponsored a football dress day. For the cost of $1.00 teachers and students wore football jerseys or anything pink to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. A total of $105.00 was collected for the cause.

What I Am Thankful For

By Mattie Hughes, SBCA Student

Oh my, oh my! How times goes by!

I’m thankful for my joy and pride,

My mom, my dad, my family,

My food, my shelter, my insanity!

The more I learn, the more I know

That God is with me wherever I go.

I’m thankful for the things He’s done,

Because each will help us one by one!

SBCA Student Council Officers represented our school at the Archdiocese of Chicago television station on December 6. St. Bernadette Catholic Academy was chosen to be interviewed for a special Archdiocesan video on Catholic schools and their focus on service to others and faith formation.

Our students experienced an exciting approach to learning about healthy, active lifestyles at the Bulls/Sox Training Academy in Lisle, Illinois on December 7.

They learned about health and nutrition at the Media Center, participated in fun obstacle courses, hi-tech video drive exercises as well as a video game and exercise room to experience the power of “exergaming.”

On any Thursday during the month of January, guests  of Cavatappi may simply “check in” on their facebook app. When guests “like” the restaurant, 10% of the bill wIill be donated to our school. We’d like to thank Cavatappi for this opportunity to raise funds for St. Bernadette Catholic Academy.

Cavatappi restaurant is located at 3020 West 95th Street, Evergreen Park. Enjoy your meal!

Mt. Assisi freshmen were given the opportunity to nominate a grammar school teacher who impacted their educations to be recognized in a special ceremony at the school.  St. Bernadette Catholic Academy alum Carla Roszczybiuk wrote the essay about our very own Mrs. Terry Lonergan, who was honored at a December 8 ceremony.

Thanks to SBCA’s Junior/Cadette Girl Scout Troop for providing and decorating the beautiful Christmas tree in the school’s main hallway.
